Task B - Letter to record company / Artist

Today I sent an email to U2's associates asking whether I would be able to use one of their songs "With or without you" for my A2 media coursework. I stated that I had no intention of using the song for any other purpose and no intention to break copyright regulations.

Ideas Towards The Style I Want To Create

I have decided to use the song "With Or Without You" by 'U2'. This song is a very unique song for the band compared to other songs they released by and as a result I feel I have to adapt my ideas accordingly towards both the music video and the two ancillary tasks. This song has a slower tempo when compared to that of other so called 'rock anthems' and is more matched to a 'Soft Rock' or 'Indie Rock' style. Therefore when creating my products the mise-en-scene will be that of an Indie rock band such as 'Coldplay' and the 'Foo Fighters', rather than a heavy rock that 'U2' mostly produce.

Task A - Initial Ideas Brainstorm

Today I decided to create a mind map of some ideas to include in my music video. The first decision was the song choice. Following discussion with my colleague on his opinion we both agreed that we would benefit best from choosing U2's "With Or Without you". This was due to multiple factors including a love of the song, an idea for a storyline to include and an actor who felt comfortable learning all the lyrics when it come down to performance. I have some basic ideas as to what the narrative in the video could be could be - the story of the emotional effects of a breakup.
